Diwali and rangoli

"Years ago, a prince, his wife and his brother were exiled for 14 years in the forest out of pure jealousy of the queen.  They fought demons, and much more.  He was welcomed back to his kingdom with a celebration with lights - Diwali.  Every year, around this time (October/November on the lunar calendar) people make Rangoli patterns with coloured rice, coloured sand, or flower petals to ward off demons.  They would light lamps to guide the goddess Lakshmi into their homes." by Angie

"Tokoeka class is learning about Diwali.  Diwali is a celebration where you would sometimes make Rangoli art which is something people make to keep negativity away."  by Kaden

"Rangoli art can be made with sand, flower petals or rice.  Diwali celebrations are so much fun, I liked learned about it.  Diwali is mostly celebrated in India." by Maia

"Diwali is not pronounced by the appearance, the w makes a v sound.  If you spelt it the day you say it, it would be d-i-v-a-l-i" by Merle.
